Sito’s Authentic Lebanese Cuisine, LLC, is a family-owned business in Minneapolis, Minnesota.
Sito, which means Grandmother in Arabic, is Almera Alexander Moses. Sito is one of 13 children whose parents immigrated to the United States from Lebanon in 1926. The family settled in Northeast Minneapolis, Minnesota, where Sito has lived her whole life.
Sito’s mother passed away when Sito was a young girl – 13. It then became the responsibility of her and her sister, Katie, to cook and feed the family. At a young age, Sito learned how to cook authentic Lebanese food.
Sito’s mother, Jennie Alexander, was often referred to as Najibah, which means distinguished and of noble birth in Arabic. They called her by this name because she would cook Lebanese food and invite everyone in their Northeast Minneapolis neighborhood for dinner – the Polacks, the Swedes, the Norwegians, Italians and anyone else that was hungry. She took care of the hungry even though they hardly had the means to provide for 13 children!
Sito carried on this tradition, cooking and inviting and delivering food to friends, relatives and even people she didn’t know.
To this day, at 82, she still cooks authentic Lebanese food every Sunday and any and all come to her home to enjoy.
Sito’s six children are often asked if “their mom has been cooking lately”. So, to honor her and keep her traditions and recipes available, Sito’s Authentic Lebanese Cuisine was established in 2009.
